How to Pick the Best Moving Company

MovingTruck1Whether you’re moving across state lines, across your city or to the other side of the country, you need to find the best moving company.  It’s already stressful enough moving from point A to point B without having to worry about any unintended consequences that arise out of picking the wrong company to move your stuff.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re moving your home or your business.  You need to find the right service provider.  It’s very tempting to think that all moving companies are the same because they pretty much the same infrastructure.  They obviously provide the same service but you’d be surprised as to the wide gulf of the difference between moving companies that truly what  they know what they are doing and moving companies that are just in it for the money.

If you’re wondering about how to pick the best moving company, keep the following considerations in mind:

Guarantees

A great moving company stands by their work.  It really is that simple.  If somebody is very confident regarding the quality of his or her work, they would offer some guarantees.

Be very careful about doing business with a moving company that won’t even offer minimal guarantees.  Take a look at their typical service agreement.  Look for disclaimers.  Pay careful attention to any hold harmless or quitclaim provisions there.  Those are red flags that this company is basically trying to duck legal responsibility for whatever happens with the move.

Try to find a company that will give you as many guarantees as possible.

Great equipment

As mentioned above, most moving companies have the same infrastructure.  Most moving companies have the same equipment that they use to do their job.  With that said, some companies basically would use a piece of equipment until it runs down.  This is precisely the wrong company to do business with.

Ask about the age of their fleet.  Ask about whether they have special equipment to move stuff around that they load into their truck.

Trained staff

Great moving companies are professional.  And any kind of professional, of course, is focused on continuous training.  At the very least, there should be some sort of standardized conveyance of expertise between one group of employees to the other.

This is how you standardize results.  If you are dealing with a moving company that basically just employs random people and that doesn’t train them all that much, you might be in for some nasty surprises down the road.  At the very least, expect and demand a minimum level of training.  Expect some sort of organized training system.

In many cases, you only need to ask a few questions for you to get a rough idea as to whether the moving company trains their staff and how extensive that training is.

System-based moving processes

Any business worth its salt will have its system.  The deployment and implementation of a system separates a fly-by-night operation from a moment pop-up operation from a truly professional operation.  Know the difference.

The good news is that difference often revolves around the existence of a system.  If a company has a system, you can rest assured and gain some peace of mind that the company knows what it’d doing and cares about the results that it can deliver to you.

Customer service focus

In the event that something goes wrong or if you have many questions, it’s always a good idea to deal with a company that is focused on customer service.  At the very least, they should have courteous staff members that would at least smile and guide you to the process if you have a complaint, a claim or additional questions.
